Glossary of Acronyms

Symbol Name Description
CS Comparison Stimulus. Stimulus that subject must use to compare his perception of a base stimulus.
ISI Inter-Stimulus Interval. Interval between end of TS and start of MS.
MS Masking Stimulus. Stimulus that blocks subject’s distinct perception of the TS.
RT Subject’s Reaction Time. Measured from onset of TS.
S The Subject being tested. Individual from whom response data is gathered.
Ss Subjects being tested. Individuals from whom response data is gathered.
SOA Stimulus Onset Asynchrony. Interval between start of TS and start of MS
TS Test Stimulus. Stimulus whose detection is being tested.
∆t Stimulus onset difference. Same as SOA for short TS duration.
